JOB SUMMARYThe Associate Provost for Academic Affairs leads and holds institutional responsibility for the University’s academic governance, policies, and quality assurance mechanisms. The incumbent ensures coherence across academic governance structures, curriculum management, academic compliance, student pathways, and regulatory relations, while promoting academic excellence and continuous improvement across all academic units.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKSAcademic Governance:
- Assists the Provost in the development, implementation, and monitoring of academic policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
- Ensures that academic governance structures are aligned with the University’s mission and strategic plan.
- Contributes to institutional academic planning and decision-making processes. Academic Platforms and Systems:
- Defines the academic governance rules and logic governing academic systems (including curriculum structures, degree requirements, and academic records policies).
- Ensures that academic systems are aligned with institutional academic policies, in coordination with Academic Operations and the Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) Department.
- Supports the digital transformation of academic processes and workflows across academic units.
- Promotes the efficient use of academic systems to support planning, monitoring, and reporting. Curriculum and Program Management:
- Oversees institutional processes related to curriculum development, revision, and approval at the program and course levels.
- Ensures that all curriculum actions undergo the required academic and regulatory compliance review prior to final institutional approval.
- Ensures coherence across academic units by enforcing standardized workflows and academic decision criteria. Academic Compliance and External Relations:
- Ensures that academic compliance frameworks align with MEHE requirements and provide academic validation of regulatory submissions prepared by Academic Operations.
- Provides academic validation and institutional sign-off on regulatory submissions and reports to MEHE and relevant external bodies, with execution managed by Academic Operations.
- Monitors regulatory developments affecting higher education and ensure timely institutional alignment. Academic Foundations and Student Preparedness:
- Oversees foundational and bridging programs supporting student academic readiness and success.
- Ensures that academic foundations are aligned with program learning outcomes and progression requirements.
- Monitors continuous improvement of foundational offerings. Admissions, Transfer, and Student Pathways:
- Oversees the Admission and Transfer Committee.
- Supervises admission and transfer policies, criteria, and procedures.
- Ensures consistency, fairness, and academic integrity in admission and credit transfer decisions.
- Coordinates with academic units and the Office of the Vice President for Enrollment Management on student pathways and articulation mechanisms. Academic Advising and Student Success:
- Provides strategic direction for academic advising policies and practices across the University.
- Ensures advising structures support student progression, retention, and timely graduation.
- Promotes advising practices that strengthen student guidance and academic planning. Reporting, Monitoring, and Continuous Improvement:
- Monitors academic governance outcomes and institutional academic performance against established policy frameworks across supervised units.
- Prepares reports, analyses, and recommendations for the Provost.
- Leads institutional initiatives to strengthen academic governance structures, standards, and policy frameworks across the University. EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
- PhD or terminal degree in any field.
- 10 years+ of experience in higher education
- Academic rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic academic leadership or administration within a higher education institution (such as Department Chair, Associate Dean, Dean, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of higher education governance, curriculum processes, and academic regulations.
- Familiarity with Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) regulations and requirements is highly desirable.
- Experience with academic information systems and academic operations management is considered an asset.
- Experience in curriculum management, regulatory compliance and accreditation, and stakeholder engagement/collaboration.
- Knowledge in Banner or equivalent academic ERP system, MS Office Suite, academic reporting tools, and LMS platforms (Moodle, Canvas, or equivalent).
- Strong analytical and policy-drafting skills
