Year-round recruitment is available for two intake periods:

  • Spring (arrival in March to June)
  • Fall (arrival in August to December). These arrivals align with the Japanese academic calendar.

Before you arrive in Japan, you will complete an online pre-boarding IKNOW course, ensuring you are fully prepared for your placement.

The standard contract is for 1 year, with opportunities for contract renewal and long-term career progression in Japan.

Locations

Teaching placements are available across Japan through a nationwide network of 13 branch offices across 5 regions, including:

  • North Region: Sapporo, Morioka, Sendai
  • Kanto North: Northern Kanto, Chiba
  • Kanto South: Tokyo, Yokohama
  • Kansai & South Central: Hamamatsu, Nagoya, Osaka
  • West Region: Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Kita Kyushu

Teaching Placements

Placements are offered in elementary, junior high, and senior high schools.

Your Role as an ALT Teacher

  • Monday to Friday schedule with excellent work-life balance
  • Deliver interactive English lessons
  • Support students in developing confidence in spoken English
  • Collaborate with Japanese Teachers of English (JTEs)

Requirements:

To qualify for an ALT position, you must:

  • At least 12 years of formal education conducted in English.
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in any subject from an accredited university.
  • Have no visible tattoos at work or in the community (tattoos on the neck, hands, or within 5cm of the wrist are not permitted; others must be fully covered).
  • Be in good health sufficient to meet the demands of living and working in Japan.
  • Be prepared to relocate primarily as an individual (bringing dependents or pets upon initial arrival is generally not recommended or supported).
