Position Summary The Music Teacher is responsible for educating students on playing instruments in a Concert Band and piano lab. The role includes designing and delivering developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous lessons on topics such as pitch & accuracy, rhythm & timing, tone quality & technique, expression & interpretation, musicianship & stage presence. Teachers are expected to create a safe and inclusive classroom environment, encourage healthy decision-making, implement processes that foster strong habits of mind, create opportunities for students to work both independently and collaboratively, and adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Create and deliver engaging, standards-based performing arts lessons for high school students
- Teach a variety of instruments including woodwinds, brass, percussion and keyboards
- Foster student creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration
- Support students in developing critical thinking/self-expression through performing arts
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
- Perform and celebrate student ensembles throughout the school and in public spaces
- Regularly assess and document student learning and progress
- Incorporate technology and interdisciplinary connections where appropriate
- Participate in school-wide planning, professional development, and collaborative team meetings
- Maintain ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues
- Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Highly qualified performing arts educator with strong instrumental teaching skills
- Deep understanding of musicmaking processes, levels and techniques
- Knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and engage with performance-practice content
- Ability to reflect on teaching practices and use data to improve instruction
- Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusion
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Master's Degree preferred
- Massachusetts DESE Certification in Music
- Experience working with high school students preferred
- Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
