Academic Coach, Alpha – $100,000/year USD Jobs in Houston, TX at Crossover
Title: Academic Coach, Alpha – $100,000/year USD
Company: Crossover
Location: Houston, TX
- On-site in Houston, TX—choose from Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands locations (relocation assistance available)
- $100,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
The most valuable thing you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to insist it isn't finished. If that expectation feels uncomfortable, this position won't be the right fit. If it energizes you because you understand that maintaining high standards is how you demonstrate belief in a student's ability to meet them, continue reading.
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full day's worth of academic content in approximately two hours using adaptive software. There are no lectures or textbooks. Your responsibility is what technology cannot replicate: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange. You'll spend half your day facilitating hands-on workshops with structured playbooks and narrative techniques. The remaining half involves meeting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their adaptive learning progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving them toward 100% completion of weekly targets. Mastery is demonstrated through Test2Pass assessments, not participation metrics.
During your first year, you'll manage a student cohort and become proficient in Alpha's methodology: life skill workshops, motivational sessions, and mastery-based evaluation. As you demonstrate the ability to hold all students to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction scores above 90%, opportunities open for advancement to Lead Guide, where you'll mentor other Guides while remaining directly engaged with students. The most effective people in this position don't merely transform individual students—they influence campus-wide operational culture.
If you've been coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people for years and have wanted to eliminate traditional instruction to concentrate purely on development, this is that opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, concentration, collaboration, and feedback exchange (experiential and project-oriented)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivational sessions where you analyze each student's adaptive learning app progress (via Coachbot analytics), establish goals, and drive them toward 100% weekly completion
- Overseeing and assessing Test2Pass evaluations to verify students have genuinely mastered each life skill, beyond simple participation
- Adjusting your coaching approach across diverse age groups, from Pre-K students requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
- Cultivating authentic relationships with every student so they trust you sufficiently to accept guidance through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering lectures or traditional academic content (students acquire core subjects through adaptive applications, not direct instruction from you)
- Developing lesson plans or curriculum independently (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your role is to animate them through energy and narrative)
- Handling parent communications or administrative functions (Campus Leads manage those areas; you remain concentrated on students)
- Evaluating homework or coordinating standardized test preparation (neither exists in this environment)
- Operating independently (you're integrated into a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)
Academic Coach Key Responsibilities
Guarantee that every student in your cohort develops a love for school, achieves mastery of critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning technology.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3+ years of direct experience with Pre-K–8 students (teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (the objective, your actions, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Available to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp coordination, or after-school program management where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined goals
- History of significant personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive athletics, or leadership positions requiring sustained excellence)
- Innate storytelling capability: you can maintain a room of 12-year-olds' engagement for an hour without increasing volume
- Experience re-engaging disengaged or resistant students and converting them into active contributors
